EU CE certification, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)

The CE certification mark is a safety certification mark, which is regarded as a passport for manufacturers to open and enter the European market. All products with the “CE certification” mark can be sold in EU member states, and do not need to meet the requirements of each member state, thus realizing the free circulation of goods within the EU member states.

In the EU market, the “CE” mark is a compulsory certification mark. Whether it is a product produced by an enterprise within the EU or a product produced in other countries, in order to circulate freely in the EU market, it must be affixed with the “CE mark” to indicate that the product meets the basic requirements of the EU’s “Technical Harmonization and Standardization New Method” Directive. This is a mandatory requirement of EU law for products.

The range of products certified by PED certification:

  • Pressure vessel: refers to a closed space containing fluid and bearing a certain pressure
  • Pressure pipeline: The general term for the pipe fittings that transmit fluids between pressure-bearing systems. The pressure pipeline can be either a single pipe or a piping system composed of pipes, pipe fittings, expansion joints, hoses and other pressure-bearing components.
  • Safety accessories: Devices used to prevent pressure-bearing equipment from exceeding allowable limits. Including: direct pressure limiting devices – such as safety valves, rupture discs, yield rods, controlled safety pressure relief systems (CSPRS); limiting devices – pressure switches, temperature regulating valves, level gauges, and safety-related adjustment and control devices ( SPMCR)
  • Pressure-bearing accessories: devices with certain functions and certain pressure-bearing spaces.
  • Complete set of equipment: it is composed of two or more pressure-bearing equipment, a combined equipment with integral functions.

CU-TR certification

In order to make trade between Union countries easier, and to avoid technical regulatory barriers to import and export of products within this customs union, the Customs Union has legislated to issue a mandatory Customs Union TR Technical Regulations certificate, Customs Union Technical Regulations certificate: it is the only proof that the product complies with the technical regulations of the Customs Union, this certificate applies to: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan

API certification

API is the abbreviation of American Petroleum Institute, founded in 1919. According to the characteristics of the industry and the needs of the industry itself, the organization formulated the API specification in 1924, which provided technical specification guidance for the production of related products in the petroleum industry. Due to its advanced nature, versatility and safety, as well as the increasing influence of the American oil industry in the world, the API specifications formulated by the API organization have been widely adopted by countries around the world.

API standards mainly specify equipment performance, and sometimes also include design and process specifications. Standard-setting fields include petroleum production, oil refining, measurement, transportation, sales, safety and fire protection, and environmental regulations. Its information technology standards include EDI for the oil and gas industry, communications and information technology applications.

API enjoys a high reputation both in the United States and in other countries around the world, and it is a petroleum machinery certification body recognized by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Trade Commission. The technical standards for petrochemical and oil extraction machinery formulated by it have been adopted by many countries. When many petroleum companies in the Middle East, South America and Asia are bidding for the procurement of petroleum machinery, they generally require products with the API logo to be eligible to participate in the bidding. Therefore, petroleum machinery and equipment with the API mark are not only considered to be of reliable quality but also of advanced level, so that the products can be accepted and trusted by users when they enter the international market.

SIL-Safety Integrity Level certification

SIL is Safety Integrity Level.

The SIL technical standard was first promulgated and formulated by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and implemented under the jurisdiction of IEC/TC65. The National Standardization Technical Committee of SIL technology is the Standardization Technical Committee of “National Process Industry Measurement Control and Automation” (SAC/TC124), and the secretariat unit is the Institute of Comprehensive Technology and Economics of Machinery Industry Instrumentation.

SIL certification is divided into 4 levels: SIL1, SIL2, SIL3, SIL4, including two levels for products and systems, of which SIL4 has the highest requirements.

Fire Test Certification

API 607 and API 6FA are fire resistance tests for valves 6D and 6A. Generally, 6D valves that can only rotate 90°need to be certified by API 607, while other valves need to be certified by API 6FA. API is the abbreviation of the American Petroleum Institute, 6FA is a fire protection certification for the 6A standard valve fire test, and there is also a 607 fireprotection certification for the 6D (referring to the valve that can only rotate 90 degrees) standard valve fire test certification.

ATEX explosion-proof certification

The European Explosion Protection Directive ATEX (94/9/EC) has been enforced since July 1, 2003. This Directive applies to both electrical and non-electrical equipments, including all kinds of explosion-proof electrical equipments, protection systems, safety instruments, control instruments and adjustment devices.

Core requirements of ATEX explosion protection directive

To protect the safety and health of people and, in certain circumstances, the health and safety of livestock and property, in particular, to protect workers from hazards arising from equipment and systems suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Manufacturers wishing to enter and sell products for explosive atmospheres in Europe must prove that their products comply with the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

There are three prerequisites for applying this directive:

  1. The equipment must have its own ignition source
  2. Intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (air mixtures); and under normal atmospheric conditions
  3. The Directive also applies to components necessary for safe use, and to safety devices that directly contribute to the safe use of equipment within the scope of application. These devices can be located outside the potentially explosive atmosphere.

IP protection level test (INGRESS PROTECTION)

The IP protection rating system was drafted by the IEC to classify electrical appliances according to their dust and moisture resistance characteristics. The foreign objects referred to here include tools, and human fingers should not touch the live parts of the electrical appliance to avoid electric shock. The IP protection level is composed of two numbers. The first number represents the level of the electrical appliance against dust and foreign objects. The second number represents the degree of airtightness of the electrical appliance against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the higher the protection level.

Production License of Special equipment (TS certification)

TS certification refers to the management behavior that the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China supervises and inspects the relevant units of the production (including design, manufacture, installation, transformation, maintenance, etc), use, inspection and testing of special equipment, grants business licenses to the qualified units, and grants them to use the TS certification mark.

The license must be obtained to engage in pressure pipe components (mainly referring to valve products), otherwise it will be regarded as illegal production. It is the product production license authorized by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China. It was originally “Safety Registration Certificate for Manufacturing Units of Pressure Piping Components”, but since 2004, it was changed to “Manufacturing License for Special Equipment (Pressure Piping)”. It is also a compulsory certificate issued by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China.
